Lessons from Ukraine will be the focus of a drone warfare workshop for JEF nations hosted by Sweden this month in Stockholm.
The Swedish Defence University in Stockholm (SEDU) is hosting the international event on 20 May to focus on tactics for drone warfare and how uncrewed vehicles have been used at unit level by Ukrainian forces defending their territory against Russia.

Group Captain Jonathan Eastlake, who leads the JEF planning team in the UK (the JEF framework nation) said: “The threat posed by drones is being played out in the media almost every day, especially in the Baltic Sea Area, which is of vital interest to JEF nations. This seminar is designed to strengthen the dialogue we are having as ten JEF nations at the operational level.”
He added: “This event is intended to share the practical, hard-won experience from our Ukrainian partners. I’m delighted that our JEF partner nation Sweden has organised this event, which will serve to strengthen the Enhanced Partnership that we are building with Ukraine, sharing expertise and lessons learned.”
The JEF-Ukraine Enhanced Partnership formalizes and deepens the relationship between the JEF and Ukraine, building on the strong political and military support already provided by JEF Nations since Russia’s illegal, full-scale invasion in 2022.
Ukrainian operators are also taking part in the Swedish national defence exercise AURORA 2026 in April and May under the JEF-Ukraine Enhanced Partnership framework.
The purpose of the workshop is to enhance understanding of tactical drone warfare by analysing operational experiences from Ukraine, with particular emphasis on tactics, adaptation, and implications for future military capability development.
Registration for the event ends 18 May. For more information about the event, contact: ifk@fhs.se
